Collected from Grant & Melissa Fong, Chinese/Canadians operating the 'Cassidy Farm Market' near the Nanaimo airport. The Beyblades are released and 'do battle' (bump into each other) on the surface of this object until one falls down; different than others of the sort in that the magnets attract (and repel?) the battling Beyblades. This object was made in China by TT Hongli, a company that manufactures imitation Beyblade products modelled on the original Japanese toys (suggestions that these duplicates do not last well in 'battle'). The Japanese company Takara (for which this is an 'original, official licenced product) sells this item for $24.90 American (at www.giftnet.com); curator Lorne Hammond recalls buying the TT Hongli version for $10.99 (Canadian). Object has BBA 'Beyblade Battle Association' on the label - group in animated series that monitors Beybladers, as well as much information in Chinese (presumably).
